10-2008 EarthChem/Geoinformatics Booth and short course at GSA Meeting
October 5-9, Houston TX

EarthChem, the Geoinformatics Information Portal, and Paleostrat will be hosting an exhibition booth during the 2008 Geological Society of America Joint Annual Meeting to be held October 5-9, 2008 in Houston.

A lunchtime short-course "Using Online Databases for Research and Teaching" will be held on Tuesday, October 7th at 12:00 pm in room 329 at the Hilton Americas-Houston.

7-2008 Goldschmidt 2008 Workshop
Using Online Geochemical Databases for Research and Teaching

The 18th Annual V.M. Goldschmidt Conference will be held July 13-18, 2008 at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. GfG staff will be running a workshop on the use of online geochemical databases in research and teaching applications. Participants will need to bring a laptop computer.

5-2008 EarthChem Workshop: Ar-Ar Dating

EarthChem held its fourth geochronology workshop on May 2, 2008. This was devoted to working with representatives of the EARTHTIME Ar-Ar group and others to establish the necessary data structure for hosting and serving these data. The workshop was attended by Anthony Koppers (Oregon State), Matt Heizler (New Mexico Tech), Al Deino (Berkeley), Paul Renne (Berkeley), EarthChem PI Doug Walker, and EarthChem programmer Jason Ash. Kip Hodges (Arizona State) also contributed comments. The workshop defined a workable data structure and the controlled vocabulary. A final report should be available over the summer of 2008.
   
4-2008 EarthChem Workshop: Cosmogenic Nuclide Dating

EarthChem held its third geochronology workshop on April 28, 2008. This was devoted to working with representatives of the CRONUS effort for Cosmogenic Nuclide dating to establish the necessary data structure for hosting and serving these data. The workshop was attended by John Gosse (Dalhousie), Nat Lifton (Arizona), Joe Licciardi (New Hampshire), Fred Phillips (New Mexico Tech), EarthChem PI Doug Walker, and EarthChem programmer Jason Ash. Greg Balco (University of Washington) also contributed comments. The workshop defined a workable data structure, and the controlled vocabulary is being developed. A final report should be available over the summer of 2008.

2-2008 EarthChem to compile geochemical data from the Bushveld Complex
EarthChem, in partnership with faculty and students at the University of Witwatersrand will begin compiling data from the Bushveld Complex starting in the summer of 2009. Read more about the BushveldDB project here.
