New Features and data in EarthChem, May 2012

Read below to see new features and data in EarthChem over the last few months.

  • DOI registration: GRL files are now assigned a digital object identifier (DOI) for improving discovery and attribution.
  • More help material: See www.earthchem.org/grl/help for new tutorials, guidelines, and pages for help in submitting to the GRL
  • Improved submission interface: The submission webform now has more help text to help guide you during your file submission.
  • Improved dataset profile: Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to related datasets and publications are now linked from the dataset profile.
  • New datasets and dataset types: The GRL is capable of accepting a wide range of data files. Two recent additions to our datatypes include software (MATLAB scripts, macro-enabled spreadsheets) and technical reports.

  • IGSNs for samples: PetDB release v2.3.0 includes IGSN (International Geo Sample Number) for stations and samples that link to metadata profiles in SESAR (System for Earth SAmple Registration)
  • Improved display of station and sample metadata: PetDBV release v2.3.0 features redesigned station and sample information pages.
  • New datasets: Twenty-seven new datasets were added to PetDB, follow the link to see a list of recent data additions
  • New citations database (beta): the new citations database allows you to view the references that acknowledged PetDB as a datasource. The new version now allows you see all citations for a particular author, and to download the citation in RTF, Tagged, XML, BibTex, or Google Scholar formats.

  • New datasets: Twenty-seven new datasets were added to SedDB, follow the link to see a list of recent data additions.
  • SedDB Status Report: The Spring, 2012 GeoPRISMS newsletter contains a brief status report on SedDB and its data holdings.

  • New datasets:  Ten new datasets were added to the Deep Lithosephere dataset, follow the link to see a list of recent data additions.

  • SESAR v3.8: version 3.8 includes an improved search interface, the use of QR codes, new metadata fields, and the option to download complete metadata. Read more.
  • More help material and documentation: see the Help and Documentation pages for materials to help you register your samples, and presentations, abstracts, and articles
