  • Pre-AGU Workshop: Using Geoinformatics Resources to Explore the Generation of Convergent Margin Magmas

    November 2011. GfG team members are co-convening a Pre-AGU GeoPRISMS Mini-Workshop:

Using Geoinformatics Resources to Explore the Generation of Convergent Margin Magmas

    Pre-AGU: Sunday, December 4, 2011, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Warfield Room, Grand Hyatt San Francisco (345 Stockton Street)

Conveners: R. Stern (Univ Texas, Dallas), M. Feigenson (Rutgers Univ.), K. Lehnert and A. Goodwillie (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory), P. Van Keken (Univ. Michigan), J. Kimura (IFREE, JAMSTEC), B. Dreyer (Univ. California, Santa Cruz), E. Jordan and W. Lieu (Univ Texas, Dallas)

Description: A short course for students, faculty, and researchers integrating the use of geochemical databases (EarthChem), data visualization tools (GeoMapApp), and data analysis software (Arc Basalt Simulator, version 3) with background information about geoinformatics, relational databases, and data reporting.

  • New Updates to the Data Submission Templates

October 2011. The Data Submission Templates have been updated to improve ease of use. The new templates feature more explanatory material, examples, and links to information and vocabularies. The templates are customized for different analytical techniques (e.g. electron microprobe, mass spec) and materials (e.g. bulk sample, mineral, melt inclusion, vent fluid) and help authors to document their data according to the recommendations of the Editors' Roundtable. Authors can also add their own fields to the templates.

These templates provide a standardized way to submit data to GfG, including our Geochemical Resource Library (GRL) and the GfG databases PetDB, SedDB, and VentDB.

The templates are available at http://www.geoinfogeochem.org/data/contribute. We welcome any feedback for improvement at info@geoinfogeochem.org!
